Common Instrument Settings

Each instrument in the Instruments Visualizer has its own dedicated settings menu. These menus contain options that either apply to an entire family of instruments or are unique to a specific instrument. Settings that affect an entire family are labeled with the SHARED keyword.

To avoid repetition, this section explains settings options common to all or most instruments.

Show Note Labels

Virtual instruments use visual cues (e.g., lighting up keys, string segments, or drum elements) to indicate what and how to play notes. Enabling this option displays note labels alongside these cues.

Settings options “Show note labels” enabled. The fretboard at the top shows the note label C on an ukulele. The option is SHARED, which means note labels will appear for any selected plucked instrument

Note Labels Size

Available for plucked, string, and piano instruments, this option allows resizing of note labels.

Different resizings of note labels. The middle snapshot shows the default size of note labels

Distinct Color for Notes

This option assigns unique colors to each distinct note and its occurrences on different strings. It’s most useful for visualizing chords from non-tablature track sources and is available for plucked and string instruments.

Two before and after snapshots that show the difference this settings option makes when it is enabled. The second snapshot shows two notes C and E with different distinct colors for each note

Transpose

Available for most transposing instruments, this option allows transposition of incoming note data in half steps (semitones).

Use cases:

  • Accounting for scores with non-standard written ranges for transposing instruments
  • Adjusting for detuned plucked instruments (especially guitars)
